Couldn’t your husband just go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and renew his driver’s license? He should then be able to get a new license on the spot. Otherwise if your husband still has his old driver’s license, that would work. If not, hopefully your husband can bring his birth certificate. Having your husband bring a passport will work as well.

Definitely follow the airline’s advice, but keep in mind that it’s not up to the airline whether or not it will be okay; it’s up to the TSA. I have encountered TSA agents who are lenient and will give you no problems as long as they can verify who you are and others who are extremely rigid. Either way, your husband will still be able to fly. If they refuse to accept his old license/certificate for new license/other form with DOB, they will ask him for plenty of other information to verify his identity, and possibly subject him to additional screening, and then he will be allowed to fly. Just to be on the safe side I would suggest he arrive at the airport 30 minutes earlier than usual, just in case he has to go through verification and additional screening. Here is more information from the TSA website:

Ok so what is the problem? Old license and reciept for the new license he will be fine. Birth certificate, bank or credit card on him with his name on it would be a plus if there is a hassle.
